A global software implementation company specialising in back-office systems, responsible for delivering large-scale IT projects for multinational organisations. Each implementation lasted between two and three years and required close collaboration between international project teams, local client stakeholders and technical specialists throughout the project lifecycle.

Following the successful delivery of several projects, the client expanded the programme into additional countries including Brazil, South Africa, Slovakia and Austria. Although the same software was being implemented, every new location effectively became a new client, bringing different cultures, communication styles and decision-making processes. These differences had the potential to affect project timescales, stakeholder relationships and successful delivery.

Green Key Personal Development was asked to help the project team strengthen their ability to communicate, influence and build productive relationships across different cultures, ensuring projects remained on track while respecting local ways of working.

The organisation recognised that technical expertise alone was not enough to guarantee successful international projects.

Strengthening Cross-Cultural Communication for Global Project Success

Green Key designed and delivered a bespoke two-day workshop focused on helping participants understand how culture influences workplace behaviour and project delivery.

Using Erin Meyer’s internationally recognised “Culture Map” framework, participants explored how different cultures approach:

Rather than focusing on stereotypes, the workshop encouraged participants to recognise where communication styles and expectations differed, and how adapting their own approach, while remaining goal-focused could strengthen relationships and improve project outcomes.

Interactive exercises, practical case studies and facilitated discussions enabled participants to compare their own cultural preferences with those of the countries they regularly worked with, developing practical strategies they could immediately apply within live projects.

The workshop increased participants’ confidence in working across cultures and provided practical techniques for managing international projects more effectively.

For participants, the programme resulted in:

Participant feedback included:

“I got a good understanding of the scope of cultural differences and potential problems.”

“Now I know what questions I should ask myself before starting a new project with a new multicultural team.”

“Before the workshop I supposed there was no big difference between nations. Now I know you sometimes have to be more flexible to achieve common goals.”

For the organisation, the programme delivered:

Increased confidence to expand delivery into additional countries with the same client.er experience, increase engineer confidence and reduce the time taken to resolve complex technical issues.

Stronger working relationships with international client teams.

More effective communication around decision-making, problem solving and project planning.

Improved ability to address misunderstandings and potential conflict before they affected project delivery.
