The department identified several key issues:

Increasing negative customer feedback.

Mr L is a senior leader in a large international organisation, responsible for making high-value commercial decisions that directly influence business profitability. Having worked for the organisation for more than ten years, he understood both the demands of his role and the culture in which he worked.

Although highly committed to the organisation, the combination of excessive workload, continual pressure, conflicting stakeholder demands and a toxic workplace culture gradually began to affect his health. Over time he experienced anxiety, a stress-related breakdown and persistent digestive symptoms, despite extensive medical investigations finding no underlying physical cause.

A period of annual leave provided a revealing insight. While away from work his symptoms largely subsided, only to return within hours of arriving back in the office, highlighting the significant impact of his working environment on his wellbeing.

Mr L realised that due to reactive leadership he was constantly having to juggle multiple balls to meet ever changing demands. Communication within the team was often lacking adding further pressure to seek missing information or correct something that he had already worked on and possibly completed, causing re-work. Teamwork practically non-existent between different teams.n necessary to reach a resolution.
